Sonar Application Example

SONAR (Sound Navigation And Ranging) uses sound propagation and reflections to “see” objects, traditionally in water, but also in air.  The reflected signal is amplified, filtered and detected.  The challenges of designing a SONAR system are that the received signal can be at a very low level and there are large numbers of noise sources present in the received signal.

Quickfilter advantages:

Programmable gain amplifier can adjust to varying return amplitudes

512 tap FIR filter can be designed quickly for complex filter parameters

Multiple channels can be used to detect different waveforms at the same time
